Welcome to a double issue of the BRC newsletter. Please accept our apologies for the omission of issue #4 (July-Sept 2011). Due to health and other diversions it was not published.

We have exciting contents in this issue, kicking off with a look at some very rare and unique items in our catalogue; preservation developments; the on-going Mission for Manuscripts; special guests at the BRC; our new website; new projects for 2012; new acquisitions; and new members.

“Mission for Manuscripts” continued in April with a second foray into the mathas and libraries of West Bengal. All told our intrepid team of Smt. Bharati Roy and photographer Ashish visited another eight repositories and photographed a further 81 manuscripts, making a total of 200+ so far.

We visited the Sripat (asrama) of Srila Rasikananda Prabhu at Gopiballabhpur in Midnapur. There is a beautiful temple with a repository of all the Goswami literatures. This place is about 400 years old.

Mission for Manuscripts

Welcome to the second BRC quarterly newsletter. It marks an exciting new phase of our program – the search for ancient manuscripts and rare books, particularly on Gaudiya Vaisnavism.

It has been our ambition from the BRC’s inception to go out in the field and see what works can be salvaged, preserved, and disseminated for the edification of the world at large. Our aim is to get manuscripts donated, or at least be given access to digitally capture them.

The BRC just passed its first year of operations and an annual report has been published for the pleasure of the devotees.

A postcard sent by the daughter of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura to her father in 1904. This was discovered in the Sundarananda Vidya Vinoda collection, gifted to the BRC in 2009.
